Trump Signs “Buy American, Hire American” Executive Order

On April 18, President Trump signed the “Buy American, Hire American” Executive Order, which seeks to encourage government agencies and businesses to buy American-made products and hire American labor. In an accompanying press release, the President said that reform was needed, because H-1B visas are routinely abused by companies that are bringing in lower-paid labor to supplant American workers. The Executive Order directs federal agencies to propose reforms to the H-1B program in order to “shift the program back to its original intent and prevent the displacement of American workers.”
