NCSS is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and flexible candidate who is looking to make a difference in the lives of others by providing support to adults with Intellectual Disabilities or Autism within our community. The right candidate would support individuals with skill building in both community and residential settings.

While there are several openings at NCSS, this posting is specifically for deaf and signing staff positions in the NCSS Deaf Services Program which provides support to individuals who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and/or hearing with communication challenges who use sign language. Our Deaf Services team uses American Sign Language (ASL) and other forms of communication to work closely with the individuals served on this team.
Our Deaf Services team supports our clients to enjoy full access to a wide range of structured services. Services can include: Music, Sensory, Counseling, Art, the Academy of Learning, supported employment, Facilitated Communication, exercise, FLASH class (for relational and social boundaries skills), and Peer ASL class.
ASL classes are provided to staff on the Deaf Services team as well as Shared Living Providers, Services Coordinators, and other interested staff within the agency. NCSS and the Deaf Services team provide, and strive to expand, a Deaf-friendly community in which our persons served have full access to communication, social and therapeutic activities, both structured and unstructured, and living arrangements that use American Sign Language.

Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
Participating as part of a team with initiating activities to support skill-building based upon a client’s Individual Support Agreement (Treatment Plan).
Providing positive behavioral support and supervision while utilizing sound judgement and calm demeanor.
Developing positive and therapeutic working relationships.
Supporting individuals with communication needs, especially signing.
Providing necessary personal and/or medical care.
Documenting progress on Individuals Support Agreement goals.
Working with a variety of clients.
