About Ashley

Ashley Smith is the Director of Advocacy and Public Affairs at ANCOR, where she leads government relations-related communications and the mobilization of ANCOR members and advocates to engage in activities that support the association’s legislative and regulatory efforts.

Prior to joining ANCOR, Ashley led the advocate engagement and mobilization efforts of CARE and The ALS Association by designing and directing nonpartisan grassroots and grasstops activities to advance each organization’s policy priorities and mission. At the National League of Cities (NLC), Ashley crafted advocacy strategies that supported NLC’s federal policy agenda and supported city leaders in engaging directly with federal elected officials.

During her time at M+R, she facilitated state- and federal-level advocacy activities, as well as digital media strategies, for clients including the American Lung Association, the MacArthur Foundation, and the American Cancer Society.

Ashley earned her BA in Political Science and American Studies from the University of Kansas and an MA in Government, with a Political Communications Concentration, from Johns Hopkins University.
