In a significant move towards advancing the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has announced its search for a senior manager for Olmstead and community integration. This pivotal position will play a crucial role in leading OCR’s enforcement, policy, technical assistance, and outreach efforts to ensure compliance with integration mandates.

The Olmstead and Community Integration Senior Manager will provide subject matter expertise in the enforcement and policy activities pertaining to Olmstead and community integration. This entails utilizing a deep understanding of home and community-based service systems to drive compliance and advocate for the full participation of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their communities.

The Olmstead decision, stemming from the landmark Supreme Court case Olmstead v. L.C., has been a cornerstone in the quest for equal rights and community inclusion for individuals with disabilities. This decision reinforces the imperative of providing services in the least restrictive environment possible, allowing individuals to thrive within their communities rather than in institutional settings.
