On July 25, Rep. Raskin (D-MD) and Rep. Cardenas (D-CA) introduced the 988 Implementation Act along with Reps. Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Blunt Rochester (D-DE), Matsui (D-CA), Moulton (D-MA), Napolitano (D-CA), and Beyer (D-VA). This legislation builds on the success of the 988 suicide and crisis hotline, which was launched one year ago, to provide additional federal resources for states to implement their 988 hotlines.

Key provisions of the 988 Implementation Act include:

  • Funding for 988 regional and local call centers
  • Funding for community-based crisis response, including mobile crisis teams and crisis centers
  • Supporting crisis workforce development through training and scholarship opportunities
  • Increasing access to care by requiring that all health insurance plans cover crisis services
  • Implementing a national suicide prevention awareness campaign

ANCOR is an endorsing organization of this legislation and was a proud supporter of the original authorizing legislation for the 988 hotline.
