Biden to Release Presidential Budget Proposal This Week

As reported by Politico Pro, “President Joe Biden will release his discretionary funding request next week, allowing lawmakers to get started on annual spending bills for the upcoming fiscal year.

The request, which the administration is not calling a ‘skinny’ budget, will be followed by a more complete budget later this spring that includes proposals for mandatory spending and tax reform in fiscal 2022, which begins on Oct. 1.”

While it is Congress’ responsibility to appropriate funding for the federal government, making this gesture largely symbolic, the President’s budget is still an important document for advocates to review. By requesting increases or decreases in funding for specific agencies or programs, the President shows which policies he wants the administration to prioritize. ANCOR staff will analyze the budget proposal when it is released and keep our members informed of relevant requests.
