CDC Updates COVID-19 Vaccine Guidance to Increase Intervals Between Doses

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its vaccine guidance to recommend an eight-week interval between the first and second doses of a primary mRNA vaccine schedule for people 12 years old and older. The CDC indicated extending the time between first and second doses may reduce the small risk of myocarditis and boost peak antibody responses. A shorter three-week interval between the first and second doses of a primary mRNA vaccine schedule is still recommended for individuals who are moderately to severely immunocompromised.
