DOL Seeking Input on Disability Employment Topics

The Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Disability Employment Policy issued a Request for Information regarding a supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS) on disability employment topics. The survey will be conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau in collaboration with the Department’s Chief Evaluation Office and is expected to be fielded in 2024. The RFI includes requests for feedback on questions to elicit information on barriers to employment for people with disabilities, employment services and Vocational Rehabilitation and accommodations.

Data from the basic monthly CPS has indicated there are large disparities in labor market outcomes between people with and without disabilities but DOL notes that more information is needed to understand the challenges facing people with disabilities and to improve programs and policies designed to help people with disabilities. To respond to this need, BLS and the Census Bureau have conducted three supplements to the CPS on disability employment issues, in May 2012, July 2019 and July 2021.
