HCBS Statewide Transition Plans: Michigan Receives Initial Approval

After the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Settings Rules became final in 2014, states were granted time to write Statewide Transition Plans laying out how they would bring services into compliance. The state of Michigan completed this process in March 2017, coming up with a plan that was available for public comment for 30 days. Over the past five months, CMS reviewed and suggested technical corrections to the plan, which the state adopted. As a result, on August 9, 2017 Michigan received initial approval for its plan because while it still needs to make some changes, CMS feels its concerns are being addressed. The reason this approval is not final is because Michigan still need to complete five steps.
