Last week, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kennedy appeared before the House’s Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health to discuss the President’s budget proposal for the Department. During the hearing, Democratic members of the committee expressed concerns over the restructuring of the Department’s vaccine advisory panel and criticized HHS for a lack of transparency and responsiveness, citing numerous unanswered letters and oversight requests. In response to questions about the budget’s elimination of specific programs, Secretary Kennedy reiterated his position that HHS restructuring was intended to eliminate duplication and increase efficiencies within the Department but said he could not discuss that topic further due to ongoing litigation.
