MACPAC Releases 2022 Medicaid and CHIP Data Book

The Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) released the 2022 edition of the MACStats: Medicaid and CHIP Data Book. The MACStats data book compiles the broad range of Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) statistics that MACPAC regularly updates into a single, end-of-year publication.

The data is broken down and divided into sections with an overview with key statistics on Medicaid and CHIP; trends in Medicaid spending, enrollment, and share of state budgets; Medicaid and CHIP enrollment and spending, with information presented by state, service category, and eligibility group; Medicaid and CHIP eligibility; measures of beneficiary health, use of services, and access to care; and a technical guide regarding data sources, methods, and guidance for interpreting exhibits.

New data compiled for the data book shows an increase in Medicaid and CHIP enrollment of 7.2 percent since July 2022, with enrollment growth slowing from the prior year.
