Senate Moves Forward with Budget Reconciliation

Senate Republicans are advancing the budget reconciliation process after Budget Committee Chair Lindsey Graham (R-SC) released a draft FY 2025 budget resolution.

The Senate Budget Committee will mark up the resolution Wednesday, giving committees until March 7, 2025, to draft reconciliation language. However, House Republicans remain divided, favoring a single bill combining tax reform with other policy priorities. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) aims to pass a budget resolution this month, but with no formal House plan announced and a recess looming, challenges persist.

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is pushing through high-profile confirmations, including Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services. In the House, lawmakers will consider legislation to streamline congressional oversight of regulations. The coming weeks will be pivotal in shaping fiscal policy and agency rulemaking.
