It's critical that disability service professionals have resources available to teach human trafficking prevention strategies to the people we support.
People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are vulnerable to a multiplicity of risk factors, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, and caregiver neglect. However, another risk factor—human trafficking—is not so often discussed. An estimated 244,000 to 325,000 youth are at risk for sexual exploitation (Hetherington, 2022). Disability service professionals must have resources available to teach prevention strategies to the people we support. Join this webinar to glean important information on prevalence rates, how to identify risk factors, and successful interventions to support people with I/DD.
By attending this session, participants will:
Examine risk factors and the current prevalence of human trafficking
Explore individual, social, and environmental barriers
Recognize basic Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles & positive behavior support strategies in a case example
