The Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division published guidance regarding online accessibility to ensure “state and local governments and businesses open to the public can make sure that their websites are accessible to people with disabilities as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).” The guidance states that web accessibility is a priority for the DOJ.

The DOJ guidance describes the importance of website accessibility for people with disabilities and outlines common website accessibility barriers including poor color contrast, the use of color alone to provide information, the lack of alternative text on images, the lack of captions on videos, and the lack of keyboard navigation. For the full guidance, see the DOJ guidance website.
