Last week, President Joe Biden marked the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with a special event at the White House, celebrating Disability Pride Month and the groundbreaking civil rights law. The ADA, signed into law in 1990, ensures individuals with disabilities have equal access to public life.

While the ADA anniversary is typically observed in July, this year’s celebration extended into September. In July, President Biden signed a proclamation commemorating the anniversary, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to advancing the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities.

During the event, at which ANCOR was honored to be in attendance, the President recognized the significant contributions individuals with disabilities have made to society, underscoring the importance of continuous advocacy for accessibility, equity, and representation in all areas of life. This celebration was part of a broader effort to honor Disability Pride Month, showcasing the achievements and ongoing challenges faced by the disability community.
