Biden-Harris Administration Celebrates Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month. For this year’s commemoration, the Biden-Harris Administration highlighted the 34th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and promoted the actions it has taken to strengthen supports for Americans with disabilities. 

Alison Barkoff, the Principal Deputy Administrator of the Administration for Community Living and Assistant Secretary for Aging, shared a post last week to spotlight the work of the current administration to fulfill the promise of the ADA. Among those accomplishments she acknowledged were the nearly $40 million authorized through the American Rescue Plan Act that was invested in home and community-based services, the creation of the Direct Care Workforce Strategies Center, and the designation of people with disabilities as a population with health disparities to assist federal agencies in research to address the causes of the poorer health outcomes.
