Bipartisan Momentum Grows for HR 2941: Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act

In a significant step towards addressing the workforce crisis in disability support services, five Members of Congress recently co-sponsored HR 2941, the “Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act.” This bipartisan endorsement underscores the growing recognition of the essential role that Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) play in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The bill urges the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to create a unique standard occupational classification (SOC) code specifically for DSPs. This classification is vital for strengthening and professionalizing the DSP workforce, enabling comprehensive and accurate data collection. By providing policymakers with better insights into the direct support workforce, the SOC for DSPs will facilitate more effective policy responses to address critical issues in the field.

We encourage you to reach out to your U.S. Representative and express your support for HR 2941. Your advocacy can help ensure that Direct Support Professionals receive the recognition and support they deserve, which will strengthen this critical workforce and ultimately benefit people with disabilities across the country.
