The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released division-specific Language Access Plans, building on the department-wide Language Access Plan introduced in November 2023. The plans aim to ensure that people with limited English proficiency (LEP) and those with disabilities have greater access to critical services.

In alignment with Executive Order 13166, “Improving Access to Services for Persons with Limited English Proficiency,” these newly released plans underscore HHS’s commitment to providing culturally and linguistically competent services across its various divisions. These plans represent the culmination of efforts across nearly all HHS operating and staff divisions, each setting specific goals to expand access and remove communication barriers.

Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), reiterated CMS’ commitment, stating, “We are especially sensitive to the needs of those with limited English proficiency and people with disabilities. We will continue to work to expand our efforts so that more people are able to understand their options and can access high-quality, affordable health care coverage.”
