The Biden Administration led a high-profile convening last week focused on advancing care policies and recognizing the vital contributions of care workers across the nation. The event, held as part of Care Workers Recognition Month, brought together senior Administration officials, advocates, and stakeholders—including ANCOR’s CEO Barbara Merrill—to highlight progress made and discuss future initiatives in the care sector.

The convening was an opportunity for the President to tout the successes made by the Biden-Harris Administration in making care more accessible and affordable for American families, supporting family caregivers, and improving job quality and compensation for care workers. Participants spoke to the administration’s commitment to expanding care options and emphasized the need for continued investment and innovation in the care economy.

Notable attendees at the convening included Xavier Becerra, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services; Neera Tanden, Assistant to the President and Domestic Policy Advisor; Jen Klein, Assistant to the President and Director of the Gender Policy Council; and Lael Brainard, Assistant to the President and Director of the National Economic Council.

During the event, the senior officials outlined President Biden’s vision for furthering progress in the care sector through transformational investments in health care. These initiatives aim to address the pressing challenges faced by millions of American families in accessing affordable, high-quality care. President Biden’s plan also includes investing in long-term care and family caregiving previously shared in his FY 2025 budget.

The convening served as a platform to celebrate the coalition driving the care agenda nationwide and amplify the stories of Americans from diverse care sectors, including child care, home- and community-based services, and family caregiving.
