This week, the White House Steering Committee for Pandemic Innovation released its American Pandemic Preparedness Plan Annual Report. The first annual report tracks the progress made since September 2021 on the administration’s American Pandemic Preparedness: Transforming our Capabilities Plan (AP3). The AP3 plan focused on five pillars: transforming medical defenses, ensuring situational awareness, strengthening public health systems, building core capabilities, and working with a seriousness of purpose, commitment, and accountability. The report acknowledges the progress made on each of the pillars of the AP3 plan while also identifying the gaps that exist in the nation’s ability to respond and prepare for emerging health threats.
